Why Did Jesus Die? 3 Big Reasons Kids Should Know

2–3 minutes

Introduction

Have you ever wondered why Jesus had to die? Easter is not just about chocolate eggs or dressing up for church—it’s about remembering what Jesus did for us on the cross. Jesus gave His life so we can be close to God again.

Let’s explore three simple reasons why Jesus died, and what they mean for you and me!

1. Jesus Died to Defeat the Devil

A long time ago, the devil tricked people into doing bad things. But God made a promise: one day, someone very special would come to stop the devil. That special person is Jesus!

The Bible says in 1 John 3:8:

“The Son of God came to destroy the works of the devil.”

When Jesus died on the cross, He won a great battle! He broke the power of fear, lies, and sin. Now we don’t have to be afraid of the devil anymore—Jesus is stronger!

2. Jesus Died to Save Us from Sin

Everyone has done wrong things—like lying, fighting, or being selfish. These wrong things are called sin, and sin keeps us far from God. But God loves us so much that He sent Jesus to take the punishment for our sins.

Matthew 1:21 says:

“You shall call His name Jesus, because He will save His people from their sins.”

When Jesus died, He took our place. He paid the price so we could be forgiven. Now we can be friends with God forever!

3. Jesus Died to Give Us a Way Back to God

A long time ago, people had to sacrifice animals to be forgiven for their sins. But Jesus came to be the perfect sacrifice—once and for all. He gave His own life so we would never need another sacrifice again.

The Bible says in John 1:29:

“Look! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!”

Jesus’ blood is like the bridge that brings us back to God. He opened the way to heaven for all of us!

Conclusion

Jesus didn’t die by mistake. He died on purpose—because He loves us. He came to beat the devil, save us from sin, and bring us close to God again. That’s the best gift anyone could give!

As Jesus said in John 15:13:

“The greatest love a person can show is to die for his friends.”

And that’s exactly what Jesus did for you!
