Accra, Ghana – May 25, 2025: Pastor Mensa Otabil of the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC) emphasized that Jesus Christ is the only true “Good Shepherd” and cautioned believers against elevating human leaders to that divine role.
Preaching at ICGC Christ Temple East in Teshie-Accra, Otabil dissected John 10, where Jesus declares Himself as the Good Shepherd who lays down His life for His sheep.
“Jesus is the only one in Scripture called the Good Shepherd—no human leader, pastor, or king is given that title,” Otabil stated. “He is the Creator, Possessor, and Redeemer of His sheep. No earthly shepherd can claim that.”
Pastor Otabil clarified the difference between Jesus and human leaders: “I am a pastor, but I don’t create the flock, I don’t own them, and I won’t die for them. Only Jesus does that.” He warned against spiritual dependency on pastors, urging believers to rely solely on Christ.
“When attacks come, don’t look to me or any other leader for deliverance,” he said. “The Lord is your shield. Pastors may leave you, but the Good Shepherd remains forever.”
