Introduction: The Call to Be Set Apart
In a culture that constantly pulls us in multiple directions—pleasure, performance, and popularity—it’s increasingly difficult to live a life that’s wholly set apart for God. Yet, this is exactly what He calls every believer to: a life of consecration.
The idea of being “consecrated to the Lord” is not outdated. It is deeply relevant for every Christian today. Numbers 6 offers a powerful picture of what it means to live a consecrated life through the Nazarite vow—a special commitment of purity, devotion, and separation unto God. This vow wasn’t just for prophets like Samson; it was available to anyone who desired deeper fellowship with God.
“But just as He who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: ‘Be holy, because I am holy.’” – 1 Peter 1:15–16
Let’s dive into what Numbers 6 teaches us about spiritual purity and living a life set apart—and how you can apply this today.
Lesson 1: The Law of the Nazarite (Numbers 6:1–21) – Living with Purpose and Purity

The Nazarite vow was a voluntary commitment made by men or women who wanted to dedicate themselves wholly to God. It involved:
- Abstaining from wine and fermented drink (Numbers 6:3): This wasn’t just about alcohol; it represented staying away from worldly pleasures that can dull spiritual alertness.
- Letting their hair grow long (Numbers 6:5): A visible symbol of dedication—a public statement of their consecration.
- Avoiding contact with the dead (Numbers 6:6–7): Even in mourning, their separation to God remained the priority.
This vow illustrates that true consecration requires intentional lifestyle choices. We can’t casually drift into holiness. Just as the Nazarite had to avoid defilement, today’s believers must guard their hearts, minds, and daily habits.
“Therefore, come out from among them and be separate, says the Lord. Touch no unclean thing, and I will receive you.” – 2 Corinthians 6:17
Are you willing to give up temporary pleasures for eternal purpose? Consecration may seem costly, but it is always worth it when you consider the closeness and power it brings in your relationship with God.
Lesson 2: The Priestly Blessing (Numbers 6:22–27) – Living Under God’s Favor

The chapter concludes with one of the most beloved scriptures:
“The Lord bless you and keep you;
The Lord make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you;
The Lord turn His face toward you and give you peace.” – Numbers 6:24–26
This priestly blessing wasn’t just a farewell phrase—it was a declaration of God’s favor and peace over those who walk in obedience. It reminds us that God’s blessings follow a life of purity and commitment.
When we consecrate ourselves to the Lord, we position ourselves to receive His blessings—not because we earn them, but because we are aligned with His will. Holiness opens the door to heaven’s favor.
“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.” – Matthew 5:8
Are you seeking peace? Clarity? Divine favor? The key may lie in consecration. Purity isn’t about perfection—it’s about pursuit. Pursuing God above all else will draw His presence into your life.
Conclusion: Consecration Is a Lifestyle, Not Just a Season

You cannot live by the world’s standards and expect heaven’s rewards. Consecration is not a one-time vow; it’s a lifestyle. It’s about daily decisions to live for God, deny self, and avoid what contaminates the soul.
Too often we want God’s power without His principles, His blessing without obedience. But God calls us to a higher way—a holy way. The Nazarite vow shows that when we commit ourselves fully to God, He commits Himself fully to us.
“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” – Romans 12:2
