Kumasi, Ghana – In a deeply insightful and spiritually charged message, renowned preacher and founder of the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC), Pastor Mensa Otabil, delivered a timely sermon titled “Wealth and Poverty” at Calvary Charismatic Centre (CCC) in Kumasi.
Speaking to a packed congregation, Pastor Otabil unpacked the contrasting forces of wealth and poverty—emphasizing that while poverty is a destructive force, wealth is a defense and a divine tool for transformation and influence.
Poverty is a destructive force, wealth is a defense and a divine tool for transformation and influence.
Key Highlights from the Message:
1. Poverty as a Destroyer
Drawing from Proverbs 10:15, Pastor Otabil described poverty as a force that ravages lives, communities, and nations. He noted that poverty strips people of dignity and opportunity, while wealth builds security and hope.
2. True Wealth is More Than Possessions
Wealth, he explained, goes beyond flashy cars or luxury homes—which depreciate with time. True wealth is the accumulation of valuable, productive resources that empower individuals to fulfill purpose and advance the Kingdom of God.
3. The Stark Global Wealth Disparity
Referencing global economic data, Pastor Otabil highlighted the troubling reality that just 65 individuals control half of the world’s wealth. In contrast, the combined wealth of all of Africa ($3.5 trillion) is less than that of a few tech giants—Apple, Google, Amazon, and Facebook.
4. The Church Must Rise in Prosperity
He passionately challenged the church to break free from limiting beliefs around money, declaring, “Jesus became poor so that we might become rich” (2 Corinthians 8:9). He stressed that financial empowerment is necessary not just for personal gain but for funding missions, supporting the needy, and transforming societies.
5. A Call to Break the Chains of Poverty
The service ended with an intense prayer session as Pastor Otabil led the congregation in breaking covenants of poverty and declaring divine prosperity over their lives. He encouraged believers to walk in bold faith and kingdom abundance.
