Introduction
On the journey of faith, opposition can rise even when you’ve done nothing wrong. In Numbers 22, Israel continues to make progress under God’s protection—but not everyone is pleased. King Balak of Moab becomes fearful and hires a well-known prophet-for-hire named Balaam to curse God’s people.
But here’s the lesson: no one can curse whom God has blessed. What begins as a plot to destroy Israel ends up revealing God’s unshakable protection over His children. When God is for you, no enemy can succeed against you.
“No one can curse whom God has blessed.”
1. An Evil King, A Sinister Plan
📖 “Now Balak… sent messengers to summon Balaam… ‘Come and put a curse on these people.’” — Numbers 22:2–6
King Balak watched Israel’s victories with growing fear. He didn’t try to fight them with swords—he sought a spiritual weapon instead: a curse. He hired Balaam, a prophet known for his mystical influence, to weaken Israel through words.
📝 Lesson: The enemy often attacks through words, fear, and manipulation, not just force.
“When God is for you, no enemy can succeed against you.”
2. Balaam’s Compromise and God’s Permission
📖 “That night God came to Balaam and said, ‘Do not go with them. You must not put a curse on those people, because they are blessed.’” — Numbers 22:12
Initially, Balaam refuses, but after more pressure (and a bigger offer), he seeks God again. Surprisingly, God permits him to go—but with strict limits. Why? Sometimes, God allows our choices to unfold to expose our motives and to work out His greater plan.
📝 Lesson: Just because God allows something doesn’t mean it has His full approval. (See Romans 1:24)
“The enemy often attacks through words, fear, and manipulation.”
3. A Divine Warning on the Way
📖 “But God was very angry when he went, and the angel of the Lord stood in the road to oppose him.” — Numbers 22:22
As Balaam travels, an angel blocks his path. Balaam’s donkey sees the angel and stops—saving Balaam’s life! This divine encounter reveals God’s seriousness about not playing games with His Word.
📝 Lesson: God’s warnings often come when we’re headed in the wrong direction. Even stubborn prophets need divine reminders.
“Just because God allows something doesn’t mean it has His full approval.”
4. Balaam Arrives With Wrong Intentions
📖 “Balak took Balaam to the high places of Baal…” — Numbers 22:41
Balak positions Balaam to curse Israel. But what they don’t realize is this: no altar, no height, and no amount of money can override the blessing of God.
📝 Lesson: God’s sovereignty is unshakable—He protects His people from curses, attacks, and evil plots.
“God’s sovereignty is unshakable—He protects His people from curses, attacks, and evil plots.”
Conclusion
Though the enemy tries to curse, manipulate, and control, God always remains in charge. The devil may plot, but God’s hand blocks every scheme. You are blessed and covered if you are in Christ.
“You are blessed—and no one can reverse it.”
