More Than a Conference: Pastor Mensa Otabil Reflects on the Life-Changing Impact of Greater Works

2–3 minutes

— Living Word Exclusive Interview, Tuesday 29th July 2025

In the buildup to Greater Works 2025, Pastor Mensa Otabil, General Overseer of the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC), offered profound reflections on the true impact of the annual conference—not in numbers or media reach, but in the transformed lives of those who attend.

“It’s difficult to tell [the impact], because the impact is not the conference itself, but in the life of people,” Pastor Otabil shared during his exclusive conversation with Rev. Albert Ocran on Living Word. “You can look at the impact on your life, but for individuals, it is impacting them differently.”

According to Pastor Otabil, Greater Works means different things to different people, and that’s precisely what makes it so impactful.

For some people, just the opportunity to serve, to be in the church, to serve as an usher, to serve in a department, is a high moment for them. For some, it’s the music, it’s the praise and worship, and just being soaked in this atmosphere. For others, it’s the fellowship—meeting people, just the atmosphere is a big deal for them.”

He continued by explaining that for many, Greater Works becomes a defining spiritual encounter.

Some are looking for a job, some are looking for God to give them something or healing for their body… so they can say, ‘At Greater Works, in this particular year, I received healing, I received that.’

While attendees may testify of individual breakthroughs, Pastor Otabil says he measures the impact through their lives—not his own.

As a pastor, I evaluate things not in my life, but in the lives of my flock. I would look at how beneficial it is to them… so in a sense, my fulfillment is that what we have put out has helped people.

In their experience, I have my experience,” he added. “Their lives have been changed, that people have found benefits—benefits that are quantifiable.”

These reflections offer a refreshing perspective: that Greater Works is not about a stage or a speaker, but about divine encounters that bring real transformation.
