ICGC Christ Temple East, Teshie-Accra – Tuesday, August 5, 2025
Day 2 of the Greater Works 2025 Conference witnessed a powerful moment as Pastor Mensa Otabil, Founder and General Overseer of the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC), officially announced the release of his latest book titled “Prophets, Prophecy, and the Prophetic Gift.”
Speaking during the morning session at ICGC Christ Temple East in Teshie, Accra, Pastor Otabil described the new publication as a timely resource aimed at bringing biblical clarity to the often misunderstood subject of prophecy in the Church.
“My latest book is out,” he said, holding up a copy to the congregation. “Prophets, Prophecy, and the Prophetic Gift… I believe it’s a timely book to speak to our understanding of Scripture.”
Pastor Otabil explained that the book traces the biblical foundations of prophecy, beginning from the Old Testament and moving through to the New Testament, with a detailed exposition of Joel chapter 2 and its fulfillment in Acts chapter 2.

“What I have done in this book is try to define from a biblical expositional point of view… the development of the prophetic inclination… and then I do a very important exposition on Joel’s prophecy… and its significance for the New Testament,” he explained.
Addressing possible expectations of controversy, he clarified:
“If you’re expecting that I will be critical of people in this book, you will be totally misled. Because I am not in the business of biting people and attacking people. I’m in the business of establishing biblical truth.”
Pastor Otabil expressed concern over the state of modern prophetic ministry, saying many practices under the banner of prophecy today are “totally unscriptural and totally misplaced” and urgently need correction. However, he stressed that correction should not be seen as superiority, but as a call to return to biblical standards.

“Correction does not mean somebody is superior to the other. Correction simply means let’s go back and do things the Bible way. And if we do it the Bible way, we get Bible results.”
In a striking moment, Pastor Otabil questioned the authenticity of some popular figures in the prophetic space:
“Many who have taken up that title are not born again in the first place… They are not false prophets. They are not Christians. Christ is not their saviour. The Holy Spirit doesn’t live in them.”
He warned against elevating people who merely “know the language of Christianity but not the life of Christianity,” noting that true conversion is marked by a transformed life.
“A lot of people in Christian pulpits need to respond to an altar call. And receive Jesus Christ as their Lord and personal Saviour,” he charged.
At the same time, he acknowledged that genuine believers within the prophetic ministry may simply need guidance, and expressed hope that his book would serve as a valuable tool.
“For all of you young pastors who want to be used by God… I hope this book will help you to find the best way to deliver the gift that God has given to you,” he concluded.
The audience responded with a standing ovation as Pastor Otabil shared his heart with humility and conviction.
Copies of “Prophets, Prophecy, and the Prophetic Gift” are now available for sale, with Pastor Otabil also announcing an upcoming podcast series to further unpack the themes of the book.
