Introduction:
In a time of spiritual noise, rising deception, and shallow doctrines, Bishop Mike Okonkwo, Founder and General Overseer of The Redeemed Evangelical Mission (TREM), Nigeria, delivered a resounding message that centers everything on one unshakable truth: Jesus Christ alone is enough.
Preaching at the Greater Works gathering, Bishop Okonkwo passionately reminded believers that the gospel is not about signs, personalities, or additives—it is about the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ. “Any other gospel,” he said firmly, “is another gospel.”
Key Highlights of the Sermon:

1. Jesus Is God’s Final Word to Humanity
Drawing from Matthew 17, Bishop Okonkwo referenced the transfiguration of Jesus where Moses and Elijah appeared, representing the Law and the Prophets. But God declared, “This is my beloved Son… hear Him.” (Matthew 17:5). “It’s all about Jesus,” the Bishop declared. “Every other voice fades—He is the one we are to listen to.”
2. See Yourself in Christ
Many believers live beneath their potential because they see themselves outside of Christ. Citing Philippians 2:5 and 2 Corinthians 5:17, Bishop Okonkwo proclaimed:
“The way Jesus saw Himself is the only valid way to see yourself. Any other view is a distortion.”
He stressed that the believer’s past no longer defines them. “You are not a weakling,” he said, “You are in charge!”
3. No Additives Needed
The gospel doesn’t need African traditionalism, syncretism, or emotionalism to be complete. “Christ is completely complete and perfectly perfect,” Bishop Okonkwo thundered. “He doesn’t need support. He is the support.” He warned against popular movements that replace Jesus with emotional sensationalism:
“Any gospel that does not preach Christ crucified, buried, and risen is another gospel.”
4. The Simplicity and Power of the Gospel
Preaching yourself, your encounters, or motivational therapy is not the gospel. “Only Jesus can save,” he said repeatedly. He rebuked the modern trend of prophetic theatrics that lock Christ out of His own church. “You come to church to be informed, not just entertained. Christ transforms lives—nothing else can.”
5. Mount Sinai vs Mount Zion
In a stunning comparison, Bishop Okonkwo highlighted the difference between the law and grace:
- “At Mount Sinai, 3,000 died. At Mount Zion, 3,000 were saved.”
- “In Sinai, you remove your shoes. In Zion, you wear your shoes—you are not a slave!”
- “In Sinai, you eat manna—‘What is this?’ In Zion, you eat Jesus—‘This is it!’”
Conclusion:

Bishop Mike Okonkwo’s sermon is a call to refocus the church and believers on Jesus—the Author and Finisher of our faith. Not emotions. Not personalities. Not performance. Just Jesus.
“Let your life be submerged in grace. Celebrate your in-Christness. Build your life in Christ.”
