Chosen to Be Blessed

Introduction
Israel was not the largest or strongest of nations, yet God chose them to be His treasured possession. Their identity and destiny rested not in human merit but in God’s sovereign grace.

Deuteronomy 7 reminds us that God’s election is an act of love, faithfulness, and covenant purpose.

His blessings are never about our glory, but about displaying His power and goodness to the world.

1. God Chooses Us for His Divine Purpose (Deuteronomy 7:1-11)

Moses reminded Israel that their calling was not based on their strength, numbers, or achievements. They were chosen because God loved them and remained faithful to His promises to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

Scripture: “The Lord did not set His affection on you and choose you because you were more numerous than other peoples, for you were the fewest of all peoples. But it was because the Lord loved you…” (Deuteronomy 7:7–8 NIV)

For believers today, this is a powerful reminder that our worth is not defined by what we do but by who we are in Christ. God calls and equips us for His glory, not because we are strong but because He is faithful.

2. God Blesses Us to Display His Glory Among the Nations (Deuteronomy 7:12-26)

Obedience to God’s commands opened the door for Israel to experience His abundant blessings—fertility, prosperity, health, and victory over enemies. But these blessings were never meant for selfish consumption. They were given so that the nations would recognize the greatness of Israel’s God.

Scripture: “The Lord will keep you free from every disease. He will not inflict on you the horrible diseases you knew in Egypt…” (Deuteronomy 7:15 NIV)

God’s blessings still have the same purpose today: to reflect His goodness. When God lifts us, prospers us, or heals us, it’s so His glory may shine through our lives. As Jesus said, “Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” (Matthew 5:16).

Conclusion

Deuteronomy 7 shows that God’s choice is not about merit, but about grace. He can take the least and make them the greatest. His blessings are not an end in themselves but a means to display His glory. As the Almighty, God does what no one else can do—He exalts the humble and fulfills His covenant promises.

Take Action: Praise God today for choosing you. Live not for yourself but for His glory, reflecting His goodness to the nations and fulfilling His purpose in your life.
