Introduction
Moses set before Israel a clear choice with eternal consequences: to love and obey the Lord would bring blessing and victory, but disobedience would lead to destruction. We cannot live carelessly, ignoring God’s commands, and still expect His hand of blessing.
Deuteronomy 11 is a call to intentional faith—one that demonstrates love for God through obedience and results in walking in His promises.
When we love the Lord and follow His Word, His blessings flow and ensure that it goes well with us.
1. Love and Keep the Commandments of the Lord (Deuteronomy 11:1)
The chapter begins with a powerful reminder: loving God is shown through obedience. True devotion is not just about feelings or rituals but about aligning our lives with His Word.
Scripture: “Love the Lord your God and keep his requirements, his decrees, his laws and his commands always.” (Deuteronomy 11:1 NIV)
This teaches us that a genuine relationship with God is marked by a steady commitment to His ways. Obedience is not a burden but an expression of love.
2. Remember What the Lord Has Done for You (Deuteronomy 11:2-7)
Moses reminded Israel of God’s mighty acts—the plagues in Egypt, the parting of the Red Sea, and His provision in the wilderness. Remembering God’s past faithfulness builds faith for the future.
Scripture: “Remember today that your children were not the ones who saw and experienced the discipline of the Lord your God: his majesty, his mighty hand, his outstretched arm.” (Deuteronomy 11:2 NIV)
For us, reflecting on God’s past goodness keeps us from drifting. Gratitude is the fuel that sustains obedience and trust, even when challenges come.
3. Go In and Possess the Land He Has Promised (Deuteronomy 11:8-12)
God’s promises are sure, but they require action. Israel had to be strong and courageous to take possession of the land. Faith always moves us to act.
Scripture: “Observe therefore all the commands I am giving you today, so that you may have the strength to go in and take over the land.” (Deuteronomy 11:8 NIV)
Today, God calls us to claim His promises—not passively, but with bold steps of faith. Obedience positions us to inherit what God has already prepared.
4. Blessings for Obedience and Consequences for Disobedience (Deuteronomy 11:13-32)
Moses drew a line between two choices: blessing for obedience and curse for disobedience. God’s favor follows those who walk in His ways, while rebellion leads to ruin.
Scripture: “See, I am setting before you today a blessing and a curse—the blessing if you obey… the curse if you disobey.” (Deuteronomy 11:26-28 NIV)
The same principle applies today: our choices matter. Obedience leads to life and blessing; disobedience brings challenges and regret.
Conclusion
Deuteronomy 11 makes it clear—there are only two paths: obedience or disobedience. The path of obedience leads to blessing, strength, and fulfillment of God’s promises. The path of disobedience leads to consequences.
Take Action: Choose today to love and obey God’s Word. Reflect on His faithfulness, walk courageously into His promises, and align your life with His commands so you can experience His blessing.
