The global Christian community is mourning the sudden passing of Voddie Tharon Baucham, Jr., a pastor, author, and educator whose ministry shaped lives across continents. He died on September 25, 2025, at the age of 56, following an emergency medical incident.
Baucham’s journey was marked by faith, conviction, and a deep commitment to Scripture. Born in Los Angeles in 1969 and raised by a single mother, he came to faith during college and went on to earn advanced theological degrees, including a Doctor of Ministry and post-graduate studies at Oxford.
He founded Voddie Baucham Ministries in 1993 and served as pastor of Grace Family Baptist Church in Texas. In 2015, Baucham and his family relocated to Zambia, where he became Dean of Theology at African Christian University (ACU), shaping theological education across Africa for nearly a decade. In 2024, he returned to the U.S. as the founding president of Founders Seminary in Florida, continuing his passion for training pastors and leaders.
Baucham authored several widely read books, including Family Driven Faith, Expository Apologetics, and the best-selling Fault Lines, which critiqued the influence of critical theory and the social justice movement in evangelical circles. His writings, though sometimes controversial, were bold calls to uphold biblical truth.
Despite battling heart failure in 2021 and undergoing major surgery, Baucham continued preaching and teaching until his final days. He is survived by his wife, Bridget, their nine children, and grandchildren.
Tributes have poured in worldwide, remembering him as a fearless defender of the faith, a mentor to many, and a family man who lived what he preached. His legacy will continue through his writings, students, and the many lives touched by his ministry.
