Renowned theologian and General Overseer of the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC), Pastor Mensa Otabil, has brought his eight-part sermon series Transformed by Jesus to a powerful close, emphasizing that true Christian transformation begins with following Christ wholeheartedly.
Preaching from Matthew 4:18–19, Pastor Otabil explained that Jesus’ call to His first disciples — “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men” — remains the foundation of genuine transformation. “If we’re going to be transformed,” he said, “we have to follow Him. That’s where everything starts. He invites us to follow Him.”

He noted that the word follow in Greek means “to be second to someone” and “to be in agreement.” “To follow Jesus,” he continued, “means that we must be second to Him and in full agreement with Him. You cannot experience true transformation if you’re just following your church, your pastor, or social media trends. Jesus said, Follow Me.”
Pastor Otabil further taught that transformation is “founded on the promise of Jesus,” not on self-effort. “He initiates; we respond,” he declared. “Christianity is not self-help or self-improvement. It’s not about ‘heaven helps those who help themselves.’ Jesus helps us first. Transformation is not cosmetic; it’s Christ-initiated.”

Describing the phrase “I will make you” as the heart of transformation, he explained, “When Jesus makes you, He does it right. He forms you properly. His transformation is not an AI version of you—it’s real, complete, and lasting.”
In conclusion, Pastor Otabil reminded believers that transformation fulfills the purpose of Jesus: to make us “fishers of men.” He urged Christians to live in a way that draws others to Christ, saying, “One way to know you’ve been transformed is to ask, ‘Are people drawn to Jesus because of me?’”

He ended with a heartfelt prayer: “Lord, I want to be a fisher of men. Let my life draw people to You.”
