At the final service of his Transformed by Jesus series, Pastor Mensa Otabil, General Overseer of the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC), dismantled the popular belief that human effort alone can change lives, emphasizing that true transformation is the work of Christ.

Preaching at ICGC Christ Temple, he said, “Transformation is not self-help. Transformation is not self-improvement. Transformation is not ‘do it yourself.’ It is Christ-initiated.”

Using Matthew 4:19 as his text, he reminded the congregation that Jesus calls believers to depend on Him: “He calls us first, and we respond. He initiates and we follow. He says, ‘Follow Me, and I will make you.’”

Pastor Otabil explained that Jesus’ promise to “make” His followers means divine participation in shaping their lives. “When Jesus makes you, He does it right. He forms you properly. He’s not doing a cosmetic or AI transformation — it’s real and lasting,” he said, drawing laughter and reflection from the audience.

He cautioned believers against relying on self-made systems: “No follower of Jesus lives life all by himself or herself. The Christian life is not self-help — it is divine partnership.”

Concluding his message, Pastor Otabil reaffirmed that true transformation begins when believers yield fully to Christ’s process, adding, “He is the initiator of change. All we do is respond.”
