Pastor Mensa Otabil Begins New Series on “Jesus the Messiah: The Anointed One” — A Revelation of Christ as King and Priest

LOB Team I http://www.livingourbible.com I Monday 10th November 2025

Introduction

The auditorium of ICGC Christ Temple East was filled with deep worship and anticipation as General Overseer, Pastor Mensa Otabil, launched a new seven-part teaching series titled “Jesus the Messiah: The Anointed One.” The message marked the final major series in what he described as “The Jesus Year,” a year dedicated to exploring the person, teachings, and mission of Jesus Christ.

Preaching with clarity and depth, Pastor Otabil described the series as a journey into divine revelation — unveiling Jesus as both King and Priest, the eternal figure at the center of God’s redemptive plan for humanity.

The Meaning of “Messiah” — The Anointed One Sent by God

Reading from Daniel 9:25–26 and Psalm 110, Pastor Otabil began by explaining the origin and meaning of the word “Messiah.”

He stated, “The word Messiah means The Anointed One — from the Hebrew Mashiach and the Greek Christos. It refers to someone sent from God, set apart by God, and set in place by God.”

He added that every true anointing carries divine purpose: “The Messiah’s identity is not about status but about assignment. He is the one God has chosen, empowered, and positioned to fulfill His plan on earth.”

Jesus: The King Who Rules with Righteousness

Expounding on Psalm 110:1–2, Pastor Otabil highlighted the royal aspect of the Messiah’s ministry.
He explained, “David said, ‘The Lord said to my Lord, sit at My right hand till I make Your enemies Your footstool.’ Even as king, David recognized another King greater than himself.”

He emphasized that Jesus rules differently from earthly kings: “Earthly kings conquer by force, but this King rules by love. His people shall be willing in the day of His power. He conquers the enemies of God, yet His followers come to Him willingly.”

According to him, this distinguishes Jesus as a King above all kings — one who reigns not through domination but through divine righteousness and compassion.

Jesus: The Eternal Priest Who Offers Himself

Moving deeper, Pastor Otabil discussed Jesus’ priestly role, describing it as the foundation of salvation.
Quoting Psalm 110:4, he said, “The Lord has sworn and will not relent: You are a priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek.”

He explained that Jesus’ priesthood is unlike that of the Levites. “The Levitical priests waited for people to bring sacrifices, but this Priest offers Himself. He comes not to take from us but to give Himself to us.”

He added that the order of Melchizedek represents righteousness and peace. “Melchizedek means King of Righteousness and King of Peace. Likewise, Jesus makes us right with God and brings peace between God and man.”

The Prophecy Fulfilled — The Messiah Cut Off but Not for Himself

Referring to Daniel 9:26, Pastor Otabil emphasized the prophecy’s accuracy and fulfillment in Jesus Christ.
He said, “The angel told Daniel that the Messiah would come and be suddenly cut off, but not for Himself. It would look like failure, but it was victory. He was cut off for our redemption.”

He described this as one of the most profound truths of Scripture: “The Messiah is the Priest who offers Himself, the King who defeats the enemies of God, and the one who was cut off but lives forevermore.”

According to him, “There is only one person who fits this description — Jesus Christ, the Son of the Living God.”

Conclusion

As the message came to a close, Pastor Otabil invited believers to reflect deeply on their understanding of Jesus and to live confidently in His victory. He also reminded the congregation of the upcoming God Summit 2025, an apologetics conference designed to strengthen believers in defending their faith.

“It’s time to dig deep into the wells of our Christian faith and know why we believe what we believe,” he said.

He concluded with a blessing: “May you encounter Christ in His fullness — as your Priest, your Intercessor, and your Conquering King.”
