Introduction
During Day 1 of The God Summit 2025, Rev. Joshua Obeng delivered a rich, eye-opening presentation on the most important question Jesus ever posed: “Who do you say that I am?”
His message cut through popular opinions, modern distortions, and centuries of cultural assumptions to present a clear, scriptural understanding of who Jesus truly is.
For everyone who missed the presentation, here are five key insights that every believer needs to reflect on.
1. Your Understanding of Jesus Must Come From Scripture, Not Culture
Rev. Obeng emphasized that many people today build their beliefs from social media, personal feelings, or philosophical trends.
“You end up creating a picture of Jesus that actually doesn’t exist,” he cautioned.
Believers must return to the Bible as the only accurate source of Jesus’ identity.
2. Jesus Is Not Just a Teacher—He Is God
He explained that reducing Jesus to a wise moral guide is a major error in modern Christianity.
“If Jesus is not God, then what makes His morality superior to any other person?” he asked.
Jesus spoke and acted with divine authority, claiming to be the Way, the Truth, and the Life—not merely pointing to them.
3. The Early Church Did Not Invent Jesus’ Divinity
Some argue Jesus was declared divine centuries later, but Rev. Obeng dismissed this claim as historically inaccurate.
He explained that the earliest Christians already worshipped Jesus as God.
Paul’s letters—written within decades of the resurrection—refer to Him as “Lord” and “God.”
The church did not upgrade Jesus; it acknowledged who He had always been.
4. The Identity of Jesus Is Revealed Across the Entire Bible
Rev. Obeng highlighted that Jesus is not a New Testament character who suddenly appears in history.
The Old Testament foreshadows Him through prophecy, symbolism, and covenant promises:
- The Passover lamb
- The manna
- The suffering servant in Isaiah
- The promise to David
Scripture presents a unified, consistent revelation of Jesus from Genesis to Revelation.
5. Because Jesus Rose From the Dead, Our Question Must Be “Who Is Jesus?”
His closing remarks were profound:
“If the resurrection is a historical fact, then the question is not who was Jesus, but who is Jesus.”
Jesus is alive, active, and still working in the world and in the hearts of believers today.
Christianity is not built around a memory—it is built around a living Saviour.
Conclusion

Rev. Joshua Obeng’s presentation invites every Christian to rediscover Jesus beyond assumptions, hearsay, and cultural noise. The identity of Jesus—Son of God, Son of Man, and Messiah—is central to the Christian faith, and knowing Him accurately is essential for following Him faithfully.
His message calls us back to Scripture, back to truth, and back to the living Christ who continues to transform lives today.
