Apostle Ray Emmanuel, founder and pastor of Kharis Christian Centre, has urged Ghanaian Christians—especially the youth—to choose their churches with intentionality and biblical discernment. Speaking on Kwadwo Sheldon’s Bants & Rants podcast, the theologian warned that many of the challenges young Christians face come from attending churches that prioritise theatrics over truth.
According to him, the first mark of a good church is Christ-centered teaching.
“The church should be a Jesus church. The emphasis is Jesus. Every conversation should factor and centre on Jesus Christ—what He has done and its implication for you,” he stressed.
Apostle Ray cautioned young people to stay away from churches that major in rituals and fear-driven spirituality. “Avoid any church that limits the conversation of the faith to rituals—oil, water, salt, handkerchief,” he warned. Recalling a case of a young woman who lost her mind after following a prophet’s instructions, he added, “Stay away from indoctrination. Youth, stay away from any church that has oil-filled drama.”

He said a healthy church must allow room for dialogue, questions, and spiritual growth—not intimidation. “Ask questions! Intelligent questions. If you can’t question your pastor, you’re in the wrong place,” he stated.
Apostle Ray further encouraged the youth to prioritise churches that teach biblical identity, sound doctrine, and spiritual maturity: “Find a church that teaches you who Christ is and who you are in Him. Not many Christians even know they are the righteousness of God in Christ.”
He concluded by urging young people not to abandon fellowship but to choose wisely.
“Anybody who says ‘I’ll sit in my room and pray’—fear that person. God established fellowship for a reason.”
