‘Bethlehem Was Not a Mistake’: Pastor Otabil Explains Why Christ Could Only Be Born in One Town

Pastor Mensa Otabil brought clarity to one of Scripture’s most precise prophecies—why Jesus had to be born specifically in Bethlehem of Judah. Preaching from Micah 5:2 at ICGC Christ Temple East, Teshie-Accra, the General Overseer of ICGC highlighted the astonishing accuracy of God’s word.

“Of all the thousands of towns in Judah, God chose one—the little town of Bethlehem, with only about fourteen houses.” he revealed. “You cannot miss the newborn child in such a place.”

He quoted the prophet Micah: “But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah… out of you shall come forth to Me the One to be ruler in Israel.”

Beyond geography, Pastor Otabil emphasized Christ’s eternal nature: “Micah says His goings forth are from of old, from everlasting. He didn’t begin in Bethlehem; He entered the world from eternity.”

He contrasted this with traditional beliefs: “This is not reincarnation or ancestral return. This King is from eternity itself.”

He reminded the congregation of the wise men who located Jesus simply by following Scripture: “Bethlehem of Judea—only one child was born there. The accuracy of God is astounding.”

He concluded that only Jesus fulfills every prophetic criterion: tribe, town, lineage, and eternity.
