“God Did Not Send a Gift-He Came Himself” – Pastor Otabil Teaches on the Theology Behind Christmas

In a profound theological reflection, Pastor Mensa Otabil explained that Christmas is not about God sending something to humanity but God giving Himself. “He didn’t give us a thing,” he said. “He gave us Himself.”

According to Pastor Otabil, the heart of Christmas is God’s redemptive initiative. “Only God can save man,” he said. “No human being has the ability to redeem mankind.”

He explained that salvation required God’s legitimate entry into human history. “God had to come without losing His divinity and without losing humanity,” he stated. “That is why Emmanuel—God with us—is central.”

Pastor Otabil emphasized that Christ did not appear as a vision or manifestation. “He came biologically, historically, through birth,” he explained. “That legitimacy is critical to salvation.”

He noted that Christmas represents God’s willingness to participate in human suffering. “He stepped into our pain, yet without sin, so He could pay for our sins,” he said.

The pastor described Jesus as the ultimate Christmas gift. “In that baby lying in a manger is the redemption of mankind,” he stated.

He added that the greatest response to Christmas is receiving Christ personally. “The greatest gift anyone can give themselves is to receive the gift God has already given,” he said.

According to Pastor Otabil, Christmas should move hearts beyond celebration to salvation. “Real life begins when the Prince of Peace is born in your heart.”
