General Overseer of the International Central Gospel Church, Mensa Otabil, has unveiled a rich kingdom-themed backdrop that will guide his teachings throughout the year. He shared these insights during the New Year Service at ICGC Christ Temple East, Teshie–Accra, explaining that the backdrop is a visual summary of key kingdom truths Jesus taught and demonstrated.
Introducing the new design, Pastor Otabil told the congregation, “We have a new backdrop, and I would spend just a few minutes to talk about it before I go into my message for today.” He explained that the backdrop is not merely decorative but intentional, as it reflects the core subjects he will be teaching on during the year.
At the center of the backdrop is a powerful representation of Jesus Christ both teaching and working miracles. “In the centre, we combine the image of Jesus teaching and working… it’s like the Sermon on the Mount, but at the same time, Jesus is ministering to somebody or healing the sick,” he explained. According to him, this captures the dual emphasis of Christ’s ministry—word and action.
Surrounding the central image are seven symbolic circles representing the seven kingdom parables in Matthew 13, including “the wheat and the tares… the mustard seed… the sower… the dragnet… the pearl of great price, and the hidden treasure.” Pastor Otabil assured the church, “I’ll be teaching on all of them.”
He further highlighted the balance between character and power in kingdom living. “On the left hand is the fruit of the Spirit… On the right hand is the gifts of the Spirit,” he noted, emphasizing that both are essential. At the base of the design lies a foundation drawn from Acts 2:42, which he hinted would be the starting point of his teachings.
Summing up, Pastor Otabil stressed, “They are not just artwork. It just tells you the kinds of things I’ll be preaching on this year.”
