On the weekly Christian Conversation podcast with Rev. Albert Ocran, Pastor Mensa Otabil (General Overseer of ICGC) revealed that his personal philosophy for success has always centred on discipline rather than brilliance. “I wasn’t a bright student. The only way I could survive was to work extra hard,” he admitted.
He explained that people who wait for sudden opportunities often fail to build lasting results. “Those who rely on a big break are setting themselves up for disappointment,” he warned.
Instead, he advocated for incremental improvement—saving regularly, sharpening skills, managing time better, and doing ordinary tasks with excellence. According to him, habits compound quietly, producing visible outcomes only after sustained commitment.
He also shared why he insists on paying for his own development. “Knowledge has to cost me something,” he said, noting that investment creates accountability and appreciation for growth.
