In a deeply moving testimony documented in his book Faith that Moves Mountains, Christopher Yaw Annor, Senior Pastor of ICGC Holy Ghost Temple, recounts a real-life encounter that powerfully illustrates the authority of faith-filled words over fear, negative prophecy, and despair.
Introducing the testimony, Rev. Annor writes, “Let me share a true story with you which is a powerful testimony of how unwavering faith in God’s Word turned a dire situation into one of deliverance, joy, and victory.”
The account dates back to the 1990s, when a woman was shaken by a terrifying dream in which she saw herself dead and laid in state, with people weeping uncontrollably around her body. Disturbed and desperate for clarity, she sought out a prophet to interpret the dream.
Rather than offering hope, the interpretation intensified her fear. According to Rev. Annor, the prophet told her bluntly that she would die within weeks and insisted that nothing—“even prayer,” he claimed—could change the outcome. Reflecting on the impact of those words, Rev. Annor notes, “The seed of death had been planted through the power of negative words, and she fully believed it.”
Soon after, the woman began to deteriorate rapidly. Though medical examinations revealed nothing physically wrong, she withdrew from life—losing weight, joy, appetite, and the will to work. Speculation about her condition spread, with some suspecting serious illness. When a concerned friend suggested that she visit Rev. Annor for prayer, she initially refused.
“She said she didn’t need another prophecy to confirm her ‘inevitable’ death,” he recounts.
Eventually persuaded that she had nothing to lose, the woman agreed to go. Before her arrival, Rev. Annor describes a divine prompting: “Just before they set out in a taxi to see me, the Lord spoke to me. He said two women were coming, and He described one of them as very sick.” Instructions were given for them to be brought directly to him upon arrival.
When he finally saw her, Rev. Annor discerned that her condition was not medical but spiritual and emotional. “She wasn’t suffering from a physical disease,” he writes. “She had been imprisoned by the destructive power of a man’s words.”
Instead of prolonged prayer, he spoke a simple declaration of faith: “You are dead to sin, and sin shall no longer have dominion over you.” He then looked at her and declared plainly, “You will not die,” asking her to return in two weeks.
Though visibly stunned—having been told she would be dead within a week—the woman returned as instructed. Two weeks later, the change was undeniable.
“She was completely transformed, radiant, joyful, and full of life,” Rev. Annor records. Summing up the encounter, he writes, “Her ordeal had started with a word of death and ended with a word of life. That is the power of words.”
The testimony reinforces a central message of Faith that Moves Mountains: while fear-filled words can imprison the human spirit, “a single word of faith, backed by the authority of God,” has the power to bring healing, restoration, and deliverance.
