On the Faith & Finance Podcast, Dr. Bill Winston, prominent American Pentecostal pastor, author, and televangelist, urged churches to actively teach investing and wealth stewardship. The discussion was led by host Jill Thompson.
Dr. Winston noted that many wealthy individuals grow assets through investments rather than salaries. “A significant amount of wealth is made in the stock market and real estate,” he said, adding that believers must overcome fear of financial systems.
He rejected the idea that church equals buildings. “The church is people,” he said. “And those people need a place to learn how to invest.”
Addressing misconceptions, he stated plainly, “Jesus was not poor,” warning that distorted theology damages believers’ financial confidence. “You can’t be rich and go to heaven—that kind of teaching hurts people,” he said.
Dr. Winston explained that wealth is a means to solve societal problems. “We take the money and help people with jobs, skills, and opportunities,” he emphasized.
He concluded by encouraging believers to see investing as stewardship, not greed. “God wants His people equipped,” he said, “so they can be a blessing to others.”
