Preaching at ICGC Christ Temple East in Teshie–Accra, Pastor Mensa Otabil, General Overseer of ICGC, emphasized that progressive revelation is essential for correctly understanding the Bible and the Kingdom of God. He warned that many theological errors arise when believers treat earlier biblical practices as final truths.
“The Bible is not a collection of random events,” Pastor Otabil explained. “God reveals His truth gradually and progressively, finally culminating in Christ.” According to him, without this understanding, Scripture becomes confusing and easily misapplied.
Using the imagery of a face being revealed in stages, he illustrated how God unveils His plan over time. “You may first see the hair, then the forehead, then the eyes,” he said. “If you stop at one stage, you miss the full picture.” He stressed that the full picture of God’s revelation is found in Jesus Christ.
Pastor Otabil used altars and mountains to demonstrate this progression. “Altars represent man’s effort to reach God,” he noted, while “mountains represent where earth rises to meet heaven.” These were necessary stages after humanity lost Eden, the original place of meeting with God.
However, he cautioned believers not to freeze their faith at these stages. “Progressive revelation ends in Christ,” he declared. “Beyond Christ, there is no further revelation. Even the Holy Spirit points us back to Jesus.”
To drive the point home, he likened Scripture to a journey. “Nsawam is not Kumasi,” he said. “It’s part of the journey. If you mistake the stop for the destination, you miss where God is taking you.”
The message challenged believers to read the Bible through its final revelation—Christ—rather than isolating earlier symbols.
