Introduction
In the busy streets near Jericho, as recorded in the Gospel of Matthew 20:29–34, Gospel of Mark 10:46–52, and Gospel of Luke 18:35–43, blind men sat by the roadside while a multitude pressed around Jesus. They were surrounded by noise, competition, and distraction, yet in the middle of that crowd Jesus stopped and asked a piercing question: “What do you want Me to do for you?”
That question still echoes across generations. It is not enough to complain about your condition; you must develop the hunger to rise above it. Breakthrough begins when desire becomes intense, focused, and vocal.
Many people remain in their prevailing condition not because God is unwilling, but because their appetite for change is weak. The blind men teach us that transformation belongs to those who cultivate spiritual hunger and bold faith.
1. Condition – Refuse to Accept Where Life Has Dumped You
The blind men were reduced to begging by the roadside, defined by their limitation and dependent on charity. Their condition was visible and painful, yet they refused to settle there. Jericho, once associated with reproach in Israel’s history, became the very place where their miracle unfolded.
Your present reality may seem permanent, but Scripture reminds us that weeping may endure for a night, yet joy comes in the morning (Psalm 30:5). Hunger begins when you decide that your current situation is not your final story. You cannot rise above what you have silently accepted.
2. Step of Faith – Use What You Have
Though blind, they were not deaf. When they heard that Jesus was passing by, they responded immediately. Faith was activated through hearing, just as Romans 10:17 declares. Instead of magnifying what they lacked, they used what they possessed. Hunger pushes you to act with what is available.
Blind Bartimaeus cried out with revelation, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” His confession was bold and intentional. Appetite for change converts information into action, and faith without works is dead (James 2:17).
3. Human Opposition – Expect Resistance
The crowd tried to silence them, urging them to keep quiet. Whenever hunger rises within you, resistance will confront you. People may question your boldness, systems may resist your progress, and circumstances may attempt to discourage you. Yet opposition often signals proximity to breakthrough.
Jesus Himself said that in this world we will face tribulation (John 16:33). A weak appetite gives up at the first sign of resistance, but genuine hunger intensifies.
4. Personal Perseverance – Cry Out Even More
The turning point came when they “cried out all the more.” When suppressed, they grew louder. When discouraged, they became more determined. That escalating hunger caused Jesus to stand still.
Perseverance is hunger refusing to die. Galatians 6:9 urges believers not to grow weary in doing good, for in due season there is harvest. If your desire for change is strong enough, it will outlast opposition.
5. Solution – Be Clear and Follow Through
When Jesus asked, “What do you want Me to do for you?” they answered clearly: “Lord, that our eyes may be opened.” Clarity is the language of hunger. They knew exactly what they wanted. Immediately they received their sight, but more importantly, they followed Him.
Their miracle was not just about seeing—it was about transformation. True appetite does not stop at relief; it pursues lasting change.
Conclusion
The question remains: What do you want? Not casually, not vaguely, but deeply and passionately. Hunger must replace passivity. Appetite must replace acceptance.
When you refuse to settle, when you act on faith, when you outlast opposition, and when you answer clearly, Jesus still stands still for those who cry out. Breakthrough belongs to the hungry.
