Bishop Gideon Titi-Ofei has sparked significant discussion within Christian circles after publishing a strong reflection on Facebook on Thursday, March 5, 2026, warning about what he described as the dangers of “neo-prophetic ministries” and the rise of what he called “proxy Christianity.”
In the post titled “Neo Prophetic Ministries and Proxy Christianity: Where Did We Miss Discipleship?”, the respected minister argued that certain prophetic systems are becoming difficult to question because they are built around influence and financial interests.
“If you question some false teachers with apologetics and Scripture, the discussion can stay civil,” he wrote. “But when you question a prophetic system, you may face threats, insults, and intimidation, because the system is not only about doctrine. It is about power, control, and money.”
Drawing from biblical history, Bishop Titi-Ofei referenced the Jerusalem Council in Acts 15, explaining that the early church resisted pressures to mix cultural practices with the gospel message. According to him, a similar challenge exists today as syncretism quietly enters modern Christianity.
“Syncretism can creep into the church like a snake in the grass, quietly turning culture into the foundation of faith, until superstition is celebrated as spirituality,” he warned.
The bishop expressed particular concern about some prophetic ministries in Ghana that allegedly commercialize spiritual services through consultation fees, the sale of anointing items, and fear-based teachings.
“When prophecy becomes mostly prediction, performance, and payment, we must ask a simple question,” he wrote. “Is this the spirit of Christ, or is it a Christian version of the African traditional religion?”
He also criticized what he described as weak discipleship in the church, which he said has produced believers who rely entirely on spiritual intermediaries.
“Proxy Christianity is a sign we have failed in discipleship… See for me. Pray for me. Fast for me. Hear God for me,” he said. “We have not built disciples. We have built dependents.”
Calling for reform, Bishop Titi-Ofei urged church leaders to ensure accountability in prophetic ministry and to keep Christ at the centre of the Christian faith.
“I did not enter ministry to protect platforms,” he declared. “I entered ministry to protect people.”
