Introduction

Indian-American leadership consultant Dr. Sam Chand delivered a compelling presentation during the opening session of Doulos Conference 2026 at ICGC Christ Temple East in Teshie-Accra, challenging church leaders to prioritise personal endurance, discernment, and intentional growth if they desire ministries that truly last. Drawing from leadership research, Scripture, and personal experiences, he connected the conference theme “Built to Last” to the spiritual responsibility of sustaining fruit in ministry.

Fruit That Must Last

Dr. Chand anchored his message in John 15:16, emphasising that Jesus’ vision for ministry impact is long-term. “You did not choose me, but I chose you… so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last,” he quoted, highlighting that lasting ministry requires both growth and sustainability. He explained that God’s promise of answered prayer is tied to leaders’ commitment to “scaling and sustaining… bringing forth fruit and that fruit should remain.”

Personal Endurance Determines Church Endurance

The leadership expert stressed that many ministries decline not because of external challenges but due to leadership failures. “Churches remain, but churches get hurt because the pastor messes up,” he said, urging leaders to cultivate character and resilience. He noted that enduring leadership is an active process, referencing the Greek word meno to illustrate that longevity requires intentional action.

The Power of Voices in Leadership

A major highlight of his presentation focused on the influence of voices in shaping leadership destiny. “The voices in your head will guide you the rest of your days,” he stated, warning leaders not to be “caught up in the charisma of the person” at the expense of character. He encouraged leaders to identify encouraging voices, silence discouraging ones, and change limiting narratives.

Conclusion

Dr. Chand’s presentation set a practical tone for the conference, reminding leaders that lasting ministry begins with lasting leaders. His sessions throughout the conference are expected to explore succession planning and future leadership strategies for global church impact.
