LOB Events I http://www.livingourbible.com I Wednesday 25th March 2026
Introduction
At the Day 2 evening session of Doulos Conference 2026 at ICGC Christ Temple East, Teshie-Accra, Dr. Sam Chand delivered a deeply insightful and practical teaching on leadership longevity, succession, and sustainability. Addressing pastors and church leaders, he emphasised that ministry is not just about building, but about finishing well and preparing for what comes after.
Built to Last Requires Strong Systems
Using global illustrations, Dr. Chand highlighted the importance of systems over personalities. “Great vision… but our rail system is not built to take us where we need to go,” he explained, stressing that weak systems limit strong potential.
Understanding the Lifecycle of Every Organisation
He revealed that all organisations go through five stages: entrepreneurial, emerging, established, erosion, and enterprising. He warned that many churches decline because they fail to adapt: “You don’t have to go through erosion… if you’re willing to build a bridge.”
Finishing Well Is Not Enough
In one of the most powerful moments, he challenged leaders to rethink success. “I don’t want to just finish well… I want to be well when I finish,” he declared.
He noted that many pastors end ministry exhausted and broken, emphasising the need for holistic sustainability.
Succession vs Transition
Dr. Chand clarified a critical leadership concept: “Succession means… you leave… transition is… you continue in a different capacity.”
He urged leaders to plan intentionally, warning that poor planning creates confusion and instability.
Leadership Is Temporary
In a sobering reminder, he told leaders: “You are temporary… you will leave,” emphasising the need to prepare successors and systems.
Conclusion
Dr. Chand’s teaching delivered a clear message: sustainable ministry requires planning, systems, and intentional succession. His insights challenged leaders to think beyond themselves and build ministries that will endure for generations.
