LOB Events I http://www.livingourbible.com I Wednesday 25th March 2026
Introduction
At the Day 2 morning session of Doulos Conference 2026 at ICGC Christ Temple East, Teshie-Accra, Pastor André Olivier of Rivers Church, South Africa, delivered a powerful and deeply personal leadership message. Shifting focus from structures to the leader, he challenged pastors to grow their internal capacity if they are to endure and finish strong in ministry.
Built to Last Requires Greater Capacity
Using a striking analogy, he compared leaders to a cheetah: “It hasn’t been built to last… it has a small heart.” He warned that many leaders fail not because of lack of opportunity, but because they lack the capacity to sustain growth.
Unlocking Hidden Potential
Drawing from the story of an oil-rich farm, he challenged leaders to rethink their limitations. “I wonder what reserves and resources there are in your life that God still wants to release,” he said.
He emphasised that every leader has untapped potential that can be developed over time.
Growth Is a Personal Responsibility
Referencing the parable of the talents, he noted that growth is not automatic. “Those who do grow never expect God to be responsible to grow them,” he stated.
Leaders, he explained, must intentionally develop themselves, even without supervision.
Become Bigger People
Pastor Olivier stressed that sustainable churches require mature leaders. “Big people build big churches,” he declared.
He added that growth must happen both in the leader and in the people they lead.
Handling Pressure in Ministry
He warned that growth comes with pressure and leaders must be equipped internally. “The capacity we have comes from God,” he said, pointing to divine strength as essential for endurance.
Conclusion
Pastor Olivier’s message delivered a clear call: leaders must grow in capacity to last in ministry. His teaching challenged pastors to move beyond survival and develop the strength to sustain long-term impact.
