Pastor André Olivier Warns Against the “Curse of Comparison” at Doulos Conference 2026

Introduction

At the Day 2 evening session of Doulos Conference 2026 at ICGC Christ Temple East, Teshie-Accra, Pastor André Olivier delivered a powerful and deeply reflective message on what he termed “the curse of comparison.”

Building on the conference theme “Built to Last,” he warned that many leaders fail not because of lack of calling, but because comparison quietly destroys their joy, identity, and longevity in ministry.

Comparison Destroys Joy and Stability

Pastor Olivier emphasised that comparison is one of the greatest threats to ministry health. “Comparison spoils everything,” he declared, explaining how it leads to envy, insecurity, and pride.

He added that many leaders become miserable because they constantly measure themselves against others rather than enjoying their own journey.

Each Leader Has a Unique Sphere

A major highlight of his teaching was the importance of understanding one’s assignment. “We will not… compare ourselves… but will confine our boasting to the sphere… God has assigned to us,” he explained, referencing Scripture.

He urged leaders to discover their unique calling and operate confidently within it rather than copying others.

The Danger of Social Media Comparison

Pastor Olivier addressed modern pressures, warning that social media amplifies insecurity. He described it as a “comparison crisis,” noting that many people feel inadequate because they constantly compare their lives with curated online images.

Measure Yourself by Growth, Not Others

He encouraged leaders to adopt the right metrics. Instead of comparing with others, he advised, evaluate personal growth: have you improved over time? Are you becoming better?

Conclusion

Pastor Olivier’s message delivered a strong wake-up call to leaders: if you want to last in ministry, you must overcome comparison and embrace your God-given identity. True longevity comes from contentment, growth, and focus.
