“The Bible Is for Us, But Not Written to Us” — Pastor Mensa Otabil Clarifies Scripture Interpretation

At Doulos Conference 2026 at ICGC Christ Temple East, Teshie-Accra, Pastor Mensa Otabil delivered a foundational teaching that challenged how many believers approach Scripture. Addressing pastors and church leaders, he made a powerful distinction that reshaped biblical understanding.

“The Bible is written for us… but the Bible is not written to us,” he stated.

He explained that while Scripture is relevant to modern believers, it was originally written to specific people in a particular historical context. According to him, ignoring this truth can lead to serious misinterpretation.

Otabil emphasised that believers must first understand what a passage meant to its original audience before applying it to their own lives. Without this process, he warned, many interpretations become inaccurate.

The teaching sparked deep reflection among conference participants, particularly pastors who regularly teach Scripture. His message reinforced the importance of disciplined study and contextual understanding in ministry.

As discussions continue at the conference, Otabil’s insight is reshaping how leaders approach biblical teaching, ensuring that doctrine is built on accuracy rather than assumption.
