Journey2Christmas
Christmas is a full display of God’s love for humanity. It shows the extent to which our Maker went to be able to redeem fallen man to His glorious place in creation. If we reduce Christmas to sharing items and having fun, we will miss the important investment of God towards our redemption.
Paul writing in Philippians 2:5-7 (NKJV) says that, “Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men.”
We delt with the first part of the text which helped us to understand that Jesus is God (2:5-6). There are three important truths we can glean from the second part of the text above (2:7):
#1. “Made Himself Of No Reputation”
Imagine the son of the greatest kingdom on earth forgoing His title for the sake of his subjects. That’s what Christ did for us. Although He had chariots of fire to ride on, He rode on donkey. Although He could have been praised by legions of angels, mere men praised Him when He entered Jerusalem. He showed the way of humility.
#2. “Taking The Form Of A Bondservant”
The next important truth we identify is that Jesus took on the form of a bondservant. He became a slave of Yahweh (Isaiah 52:13). He served His subjects by washing their feets (John 13:1-17). Even though He was our Master, He became like us; walked like us, ate like us, slept like us, and suffered what we go through. He showed the way of kingdom service (Mark 10:45).
#3. “Coming In The Likeness Of Men”
Jesus did not only forgo His title and take on the form of a bondservant, He also came in the likeness of men. Jesus did not come like an angel nor an animal but He came like His brethren to redeem His brethren (Hebrews 2:17). Thus, the writer of Hebrews says He can identify with our weakness and strengthen us when necessary (Hebrews 4:12). He felt our pains and suffering to comfort us when we are troubled. He showed us how to live as humans.
In our last discussion, we discovered that JESUS IS FULLY GOD. Today, we have found that JESUS WAS FULLY MAN. These two ingredients of His nature qualified Him to be the saviour of both the Jews and the Gentiles. As we celebrate Christmas, share this Good News with any man of any status in life.
