Powerful Prayer Topics for Church Members and Pastoral Team

Introduction

Praying for your church and your pastor is not just the responsibility of the intercessory ministry. Every church member is mandated by Scripture to pray for the church. The Bible commands us to pray for one another.

Indeed, the Apostle Paul repeatedly urged the churches in his epistles to pray for him and his traveling companions. The church and the saints thrive on the wings of effectual prayers.

In this write-up, I share five prayer topics you must pray (especially on Saturdays) for your church and pastors.

1. Pray for the Preaching of the Gospel by Your Pastor

The first area of concern is to trust God for your pastor to study the Word under the power of the Holy Spirit and prayerfully prepare gospel-centered sermons to preach on Sunday. The Apostle Paul said in Romans 1:16-17 that the gospel has the power to change lives.

2. Pray That the Holy Spirit Will Overshadow the Church Workers

The second prayer point is to trust God for the empowerment of the Holy Spirit on church workers to discharge their duties in the power of God and not their own strength. The Bible says that it is not by might nor power but by the Spirit of God. The Holy Spirit was given for the work of ministry.

3. Pray That Church Members Will Attend Church

The third prayer point is that church members will spiritually prepare and attend church service to actively participate in whatever happens. The writer of Hebrews enjoins us to not forsake the gathering of the saints as the day approaches. When we pray, God can touch their hearts to attend church.

4. Pray That the Hearts of Members Will Be Good Soil for the Word to Bear Fruit

The fourth prayer point is for the hearts of church members who show up to be prepared as good soil to receive the Word and bear fruit with it. Jesus told a parable in which he intimated that out of four soils, only one was good to bear fruit.

5. Pray That God Will Speak to You

You must personally commit yourself into the hands of the living God to speak to you as you attend church. What is the point of praying for other people when you yourself do not receive anything from the Word of God ministered? The Bible says that Scripture has the power to prepare us for the work of ministry (2 Timothy 3:16). Commit your own heart into the hands of God.

Conclusion

Prayer can do what we cannot do on our own. A praying Christian is a loud statement that he or she trusts in the power of God to effect changes in their church and in their pastor’s life. We must not rely on our own ability to make changes but rather present our needs to the throne of grace.
