Accra, Ghana – Renowned pastor and author, Dr. Mensa Otabil, has made startling claims about poverty being a deliberately sustained industry during a sermon at Bible Life Ministries.

Addressing congregants on the topic, In the Corridors of Power (Wealth & Poverty), Pastor Otabil asserted that poverty is not accidental but intentionally maintained by powerful entities for economic and political control.

“Poverty is an industry. There are businesses, organizations, and systems that will collapse if there is no poverty,” Otabil declared. “Most political systems cannot survive without poverty. Banks, international institutions like the IMF and World Bank—they thrive on poverty. It is in their interest to keep poverty alive.”

The pastor criticized global financial systems, accusing them of perpetuating economic disparity under the guise of aid. “Billions of dollars poured into Africa have not reduced poverty because poverty keeps these institutions in business,” he said.

Otabil urged believers to reject financial dependency and seek wealth through divine principles, emphasizing that true wealth includes appreciating assets like real estate and stocks—not depreciating consumer goods.

His message has sparked debate on social media, with some applauding his bold stance while others question the feasibility of his economic assertions.
