Christianity Is Not a Religion of Rules, but of Relationship, Says Pastor Otabil

In a stirring message at ICGC Christ Temple East, Pastor Mensa Otabil dismantled the common perception of Christianity as a religion of rules. “Christianity is not about do’s and don’ts,” he declared. “Christianity is a Man we must believe — Jesus Christ.”

Quoting John 14:6, Pastor Otabil emphasized Jesus’ words: “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” He explained that eternal life is not earned by good deeds or religious practice, but by faith in Jesus alone. “We gain salvation by believing in a man. His name is Jesus,” he said.

Pastor Otabil further warned against syncretism, cautioning Christians not to mix faith in Christ with superstitions or other religious practices. “You believe in Jesus, you believe in astrology, you believe in pouring libation to your ancestors — no! You cannot say everybody has a truth and still believe in Jesus.”

He called believers to a wholehearted, exclusive faith. “It is Jesus and Jesus only,” Pastor Otabil stressed. “If you miss the person, you miss the way.”

His message drew a powerful response, as many in the congregation lifted their hands in a moment of commitment, publicly affirming Jesus as their sole path to salvation.

  1. Yes, We believe in Jesus Christ. The same bible said Jesus Christ came to fulfill the old testament. so it means the practices in the old testament still work except the things God specially asked us not to do, like eg. idolatry, incest, etc. secondly, When. Jesus Christ was born, The three Maggi that’s the three wise men brought gifts to him, Gold, frankincense and myrrh. Why do you think they brought these three gifts. 1. Jesus Christ must be rich and should not beg for money during his duty on earth. Secondly the wise men also believed he will need spiritual protection so the myrrh and the frankincense were meant to ward off evil spirits. These are wise men the Bible is talking about.
