A Masterclass in Intentional, Christ-Centered, and Transformational Pulpit Ministry

Introduction
As 2025 draws to a close, Pastor Mensa Otabil, General Overseer of the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC), continues to model what it means to be an intentional teacher of God’s Word. Speaking during Sunday’s service at Christ Temple East, he reflected on his year-long preaching journey — a structured and deeply Christ-centered focus he called “The Jesus Year.”
Through systematic and Spirit-led teaching, Pastor Otabil has shown that effective pulpit ministry requires more than inspiration — it demands planning, discipline, and a clear vision to feed God’s people with sound doctrine.
1. A Year of Structured Focus on Christ

In his reflection, Pastor Otabil outlined the teaching journey of 2025:
“From January to April, I did a fifteen-part teaching on Jesus based on John’s Gospel chapter one,” he said. “After that, from April to June, I taught on what Jesus said about Himself — the ‘I Am’ statements in John. Then from June to August, I did a seven-part series on prayer titled ‘The Prayer Jesus Taught Us,’ and from September to last week, we completed ‘Transformed by Jesus.’”
Now, as the year concludes, he has launched his final series titled “Jesus the Messiah: The Anointed One.” According to him, this closing series will run until Christmas, exploring Jesus as both King and Priest foretold in Scripture.
“Throughout the year, we have studied who Jesus is, what He said, how He prayed, and how He transforms us,” he said. “We are ending by seeing Him as the Messiah — the Anointed One sent from God.”
2. Lessons for Ministers: Intentionality and Depth in the Word

Pastor Otabil’s preaching plan reveals an extraordinary level of intentionality that ministers of the gospel can learn from. Each series builds upon the previous one, creating a cohesive journey that takes the congregation deeper into Christ’s nature, mission, and message.
His approach demonstrates that pulpit ministry is not random inspiration but deliberate discipleship. “Teaching the Word of God must be structured. The pastor must know where he is taking his people,” he emphasized in his remarks.
By carefully designing sermon series that connect doctrinal truth with practical application, Pastor Otabil has exemplified the pastoral calling to “feed the flock of God.” His messages on Jesus were not isolated topics but interlinked revelations forming a theological framework for spiritual maturity.
Ministers observing his approach can learn that consistency, depth, and clarity in preaching produce a stable and growing church. His method underscores the power of continuity — showing that the pulpit is not a place for performance, but for transformation.
3. A Model for Modern Preachers

Pastor Otabil’s example challenges ministers to become intentional stewards of the pulpit. He does not merely preach weekly sermons; he curates a spiritual journey across the year. Each series builds upon the last, nurturing believers from understanding to practice.
His focus on The Jesus Year teaches that the central message of the pulpit must always return to Christ. In a generation where distractions abound, his disciplined teaching schedule reinforces the essence of biblical ministry — “We preach Christ crucified.”
Conclusion

As he continues the “Jesus the Messiah” series through Christmas, Pastor Otabil’s teaching ministry stands as a model for pastors and preachers across the world. His year-long focus on Jesus demonstrates that effective ministry thrives on clarity of vision, prayerful preparation, and unwavering commitment to the Word.
Through his example, ministers of the gospel are reminded that great preaching is not accidental — it is intentional, systematic, and Christ-centered.
