God’s Kingdom Is About His Dwelling, Not Just Our Worship – Pastor Mensa Otabil Explains

Preaching at ICGC Christ Temple East, Teshie-Accra, Pastor Mensa Otabil, General Overseer of the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC), continued his teaching series “The Kingdom (4): Tabernacle and Temple” with a powerful reminder that God’s kingdom is defined by His presence, not merely religious activity.

Using Exodus 25:8 as his foundation, Pastor Otabil highlighted God’s heart behind the tabernacle: “Let them make Me a sanctuary, that I may dwell among them.” He explained that the essence of the kingdom is not what people do for God, but where God chooses to dwell.

“The kingdom is rooted in the King,” Pastor Otabil taught. “It is where His will, His word, His ways, and His works are seen.” According to him, while God is omnipresent, He intentionally manifests His presence in specific, consecrated spaces.

He explained that the tabernacle marked a significant shift in God’s dealings with humanity. Instead of sporadic encounters at altars and mountains, God desired a consistent dwelling place among His people. “I don’t want you to go looking for Me on an altar here and a mountain there,” he said. “I want to dwell among you.”

Pastor Otabil clarified that the word sanctuary simply means a place set apart. “Holy does not mean painted white,” he noted. “It means something has been dedicated exclusively for God.” The tabernacle, therefore, was not about architecture but intention—creating space for divine fellowship.

He concluded by stressing that true kingdom life goes beyond ritual worship. It is about hosting God’s presence. Where God truly dwells, the kingdom is visibly established.
