At a special edition of A Conversation with Pastor Mensa Otabil hosted by Rev. Dr. Bernard Mensa Adams at International Palace Church, believers gathered for an evening of theological depth and clarity. The interactive session created space for honest questions, with the first centering on a subject many Christians struggle to understand — the Kingdom of God.
Rev. Dr. Adams posed the pressing concern directly to Mensa Otabil:
“When you talk about the kingdom, a lot of Christians, even pastors, are confused about what the kingdom is. Others think that it’s a place and others also think that it’s rulership. What do you say about that?”
Pastor Otabil acknowledged the confusion, explaining that Scripture presents multiple dimensions of the Kingdom without always arranging them systematically.
“I think the reason why people get confused about that concept is because when you read the Bible, you get many ideas and the Bible doesn’t arrange our ideas.”
He then delivered a foundational clarification:
“The kingdom of God is both present and in the future.”
Explaining further, he noted that the Kingdom became present when Jesus arrived:
“The moment Jesus came, he said, repent, why? Because the kingdom of heaven is at hand. The word at hand means it’s here.”
According to him, Jesus did not merely announce the Kingdom — He embodied it.
“He brought himself, he’s the king and his presence is the kingdom.”
Yet he emphasized there is also a future dimension connected to Christ’s return. For now, believers live the Kingdom internally:
“The kingdom now is in the hearts of people.”
Pastor Otabil concluded with a practical key for believers seeking to live out this Kingdom reality:
“You cannot live in the kingdom if you don’t know the word of the king… Because the king’s will is only known through his word.”
The evening set a powerful tone, reframing the Kingdom not merely as a distant destination but as a present reality expressed through obedience to Christ and alignment with His Word.
