ACCRA, Ghana — Chairman of the Church of Pentecost, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, has called on Ghanaians to abandon short-term thinking and embrace long-term national planning if the country is to achieve sustainable development and lasting prosperity.
Delivering the keynote sermon during Ghana’s 2026 National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving, Apostle Nyamekye preached on the theme, “Resetting Our Values to Build the Ghana We Want,” using 29:4–8 as his principal text. He drew lessons from God’s instructions to the Israelites during their exile in Babylon, where they were commanded to build houses, plant gardens, raise families and seek the welfare of the city instead of waiting for immediate deliverance.

Applying the passage to Ghana’s current national journey, Apostle Nyamekye challenged citizens to shift their mindset from temporary solutions to intentional nation-building.
“This nation will have to settle down. As a people, we need not put this nation under superstition and calendar,” he declared.
He expressed concern that national conversations are often dominated by election cycles, political promises and prophetic predictions rather than deliberate planning for future generations.
“When it’s about election, prophets rise,” he observed, urging Ghanaians to reject dependence on sensational prophecies and instead embrace hard work, strategic planning and sound values.
Addressing political leaders, Apostle Nyamekye said Ghana’s development agenda should not revolve around four-year electoral terms.
“Our planning should not just be four years. We should be able to know where we want to be in fifty years to come,” he said.
He explained that effective leadership is not merely about responding to problems but about providing a compelling vision that inspires citizens to work toward a common future.
“Leadership is not about solving problems but it is about contagious vision that drives a people to a planned destination,” he emphasized.
The Church of Pentecost Chairman also encouraged Ghanaians not to lose hope despite the country’s challenges, stressing that God has not abandoned the nation.
“There is hope for the future. God has not abandoned this beloved nation Ghana yet. Only let us settle down and do our part and God will breathe upon our efforts and turn them great,” he concluded.
The 2026 National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving, officially observed annually on July 1 to coincide with Republic Day, brought together political leaders, clergy and citizens from across Ghana to thank God for the nation’s peace and blessings while seeking His guidance for the country’s future.
