A strong message on financial discipline in marriage is stirring widespread conversation after Prophet Nanasei Opoku-Sarkodie, General Overseer of The Potter’s City, challenged believers to rethink extravagant weddings.
In a viral teaching, the prophet declared, “Do not live beyond your means and struggle later. Stay simple, be disciplined, and work with what you have.”
He criticized lavish ceremonies funded by debt, saying, “How can you go and do a wedding when there is just 5,000 Ghana cedis in your account?” Adding urgency, he insisted, “Loud weddings… we should cancel it,” warning that many couples begin marriage under unnecessary financial pressure.
Highlighting societal expectations, he asked, “Who do you want to impress?” and noted that some delay marriage, falling into sin, simply because they cannot afford extravagant celebrations.
Drawing from personal experience, he shared, “I didn’t pay a pesewa… I have been very smart… God has blessed me, but I’m not a waster.”
His message is resonating widely, especially among young people, as a call to prioritize wisdom over pressure and build marriages on solid financial foundations.
