LOB Article I http://www.livingourbible.com I Friday 3rd July 2026
Introduction
Many Christians faithfully read the Bible every day. Yet for some, Bible reading has become little more than a religious routine—a task to complete rather than an encounter with God.
While consistency in reading Scripture is commendable, God’s purpose has always been much greater than simply increasing our knowledge.
He gave us His Word to transform our hearts, renew our minds, and shape us into the likeness of Christ. The Bible is not merely a book to be read; it is a living Word to be obeyed.
God’s Word Was Given to Shape Lives
After delivering Israel from Egypt, one of God’s first acts was to give them His law (Exodus 20). Before they possessed the Promised Land, He wanted His Word to shape their character, worship, and relationship with Him.
Likewise, Paul reminds us that “All Scripture is God-breathed” and equips believers for every good work (2 Timothy 3:16–17).

More Than Knowledge
Jesus declared, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God” (Matthew 4:4). While God cares about our physical needs, our greatest need is spiritual nourishment. His desire is that “the word of Christ dwell in you richly” (Colossians 3:16).
When God’s Word fills our hearts, it renews our minds (Romans 12:2), directs our paths (Joshua 1:8), and produces lasting fruit (Psalm 1:1–3).
Read for Application
Every time you open the Scriptures, ask: What did this passage mean to its original audience? What does it reveal about God? How should I respond today?
James reminds us to be doers of the Word and not hearers only (James 1:22–25). True Bible study always leads to obedience.
Conclusion
The success of your Bible reading is not measured by the number of chapters you complete but by the degree to which God’s Word transforms your thoughts, attitudes, decisions, and actions.
Don’t read the Bible merely to gain information. Read it to encounter God, obey His voice, and become more like Christ. The Bible was never intended to fill your head alone—it was given to change your heart.
