Apostle Eric Nyamekye Warns Against False Hope: “Do Not Listen to Prophets Who Encourage Lies”

ACCRA, Ghana — Chairman of the Church of Pentecost, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, has cautioned Christians and the nation against embracing false prophecies that offer unrealistic hope during difficult times.

Delivering the sermon at Ghana’s 2026 National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving on Wednesday 1st July 2026, Apostle Nyamekye recounted the biblical account of the false prophet Hananiah in Jeremiah 28, contrasting his message with God’s authentic word delivered through Jeremiah.

Referring to Jeremiah 29:8, he reminded worshippers of God’s warning:

“Do not let the prophets and diviners among you deceive you. Do not listen to the dreams you encourage them to have.”

The Church of Pentecost Chairman explained that during periods of national hardship, many people become vulnerable to deceptive spiritual messages.

“It is a common phenomenon… when there is hardship on a land. There will be proliferation of churches and prophets because of suffering.”

He described suffering as a reality that often pushes people to seek quick solutions.

“Suffering is real… Suffering makes people vulnerable to all forms of predatory tactics.”

Using Hananiah as an example, Apostle Nyamekye reminded believers that the false prophet promised Judah’s exile would end within two years, while God’s actual plan was seventy years.

“Despite Hananiah’s prophecy, the exile will be about 70 years.”

He encouraged Christians to remain grounded in God’s Word rather than messages that merely appeal to human desires.

According to him, genuine hope is built on God’s truth, not comforting predictions that ignore His purposes.

“The Lord has not sent you. You have persuaded this nation to trust in lies.”

He urged believers to exercise discernment and remain faithful to Scripture even when circumstances appear difficult.
