Pastor Mensa Otabil Reveals Why Many Christians Never Experience God’s Promises

“Know it. Take it.”

Pastor Mensa Otabil has identified what he believes is one of the greatest reasons many Christians fail to experience God’s blessings: they know God’s promises intellectually but never take practical steps to possess them.

Speaking during his message “Arise and Take What God Has Given You,” the renowned pastor explained that Scripture consistently presents two connected truths—knowing what God has given and taking possession of it.

“Know it, take it.”

Using examples from Abraham, Moses, Joshua and Gideon, Pastor Otabil observed that although God declared His promises in advance, every recipient still had to rise, walk, fight or advance before experiencing them.

“We cannot live our Christian life just hoping that things will happen well for us.”

He explained that many believers wrongly assume God’s promises will automatically materialise without corresponding obedience. Instead, he encouraged Christians to cultivate certainty regarding God’s Word while demonstrating faith through decisive action.

Pastor Otabil noted that God’s declaration usually comes before visible manifestation because God finishes His work in the spiritual realm first.

“What He has concluded in the spirit must be manifested in the natural.”

He therefore urged believers to bridge the gap between divine promises and earthly realities by responding with faith, diligence and persistence rather than waiting passively for miracles.

The sermon concluded with a challenge for Christians to reject spiritual complacency and actively cooperate with God’s purposes for their lives.
