Pastor Mensa Otabil has cautioned young Christians against postponing marriage while engaging in relationships that compromise biblical standards.
Delivering his sermon, “Take Bold Steps – Part 2,” at ICGC Christ Temple East, he said fear of financial challenges often leads many couples into unnecessary emotional and spiritual complications.
“You don’t want to marry, but you are sleeping together.”
Pastor Otabil warned that delaying marriage while continuing sexual relationships often results in guilt, shame and painful decisions.

“You reduce the relationship to a guilty relationship… and you are complicating your whole life.”
Instead, he encouraged young believers to honour God by formalising their commitment and beginning married life with dignity.
“I want to start this relationship in dignity, in honour.”
The respected preacher stressed that marriage is not about organising expensive ceremonies but about making a covenant before God.
“If you are afraid of veil, don’t veil. If you are afraid of gown, don’t gown… Just come to the church office… ‘Do you?’ ‘I do.'”
Pastor Otabil urged churches and parents to encourage rather than discourage young adults who are prepared for marriage, emphasising that bold obedience to God’s principles brings lasting blessings.
He concluded by reminding believers that courageous decisions rooted in God’s Word always attract His grace and help.
