‘Marry!’ — Pastor Mensa Otabil Says Financial Struggles Should Not Stop Godly Couples

Pastor Mensa Otabil has encouraged Christian couples to stop allowing financial limitations to become barriers to marriage, insisting that God’s favour is greater than economic challenges.

Speaking during his “Take Bold Steps – Part 2” sermon at ICGC Christ Temple East, Pastor Otabil acknowledged the difficult economic climate but maintained that obedience to God must remain the believer’s priority.

“Marry! He that finds a wife finds a good thing, and obtains favour from the Lord. You already have favour.”

He challenged the popular belief that couples must first become wealthy before getting married.

“Who told you broke is an enemy of marriage?”

Drawing from his own life, Pastor Otabil shared that he entered marriage with very few possessions.

“When I was married… I didn’t have a bed, didn’t have chair, didn’t have cutlery, didn’t have plate.”

He recalled that the couple’s first furniture consisted of refurbished church benches, yet they prayed, believed God and gradually built their home together.

According to him, many successful marriages begin with faith, unity and purpose rather than material abundance.

Pastor Otabil urged couples to trust God’s process instead of waiting indefinitely for perfect financial conditions that may never arrive.

His message challenged believers to view marriage as a partnership for growth instead of a destination reached only after achieving financial success.
