ICGC General Overseer Says Believers Must Move Beyond Admiring Spiritual Authority to Actively Walking in It

TESHIE, ACCRA, Ghana — Pastor Mensa Otabil, General Overseer of the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC), has challenged Christians to intentionally understand and exercise the kingdom authority that Jesus Christ has already entrusted to every believer.

Preaching during the church’s annual 40 Days of Power at ICGC Christ Temple East, Teshie-Accra, on Sunday, June 28, 2026, Pastor Otabil said many believers possess tremendous spiritual authority but fail to experience its benefits because they do not understand how it works. The sermon, titled “Kingdom Authority (Part 1): All Authority,” emphasized that Christ has not only given believers authority but also expects them to learn how to use it effectively.

Pastor Otabil noted that Christians often acknowledge the existence of God’s power without applying it in their daily lives.

“You can admire the authority. You can store the authority. You can ignore the authority,” he said.

He stressed that the Christian’s responsibility goes far beyond simply knowing that spiritual authority exists.

“Your greatest assignment as a Christian is to understand that authority and how to use it.”

According to Pastor Otabil, believers have access to Christ’s delegated authority because Jesus possesses “all authority in heaven and on earth.” However, many remain spiritually ineffective because they have not developed a practical understanding of how kingdom authority operates.

“We have so much,” he observed, “but do we know what it is we have and do we understand how to use it?”

Pastor Otabil explained that the purpose of the Kingdom Authority series is to help believers move from merely hearing about spiritual power to confidently exercising it in prayer, ministry, and everyday Christian living. He encouraged Christians to grow in their understanding of God’s Word and trust Christ to enforce the authority He has delegated to His followers.

Looking ahead to the remaining weeks of the teaching series, Pastor Otabil expressed confidence that believers would mature spiritually and learn to operate at higher levels of faith.

“I hope that by the time I finish all the Sundays I’m going to teach on Kingdom Authority, you would know how to exercise this power.”

He concluded by reminding the congregation that spiritual growth is progressive.

“We go from glory to glory, from faith to faith, from grace to grace, because there are levels in God we have to get to.”

The message forms part of ICGC’s annual 40 Days of Power, a season dedicated to prayer, fasting, biblical teaching, and spiritual renewal for believers.
