Pastor Mensa Otabil, Founder of the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC), has issued a strong warning about the direction of Christianity in Africa, urging church leaders to protect biblical doctrine from distortion.

Speaking at the Assemblies of God General Council Meeting in his message, “From Generation to Generation,” Pastor Otabil said Africa now occupies an important place in global Christianity and therefore carries enormous responsibility for preserving the faith handed down through generations.

“The challenge of Christianity in Africa is enormous,” he stated.

Pastor Otabil expressed concern about Christian practices influenced more by traditional African spirituality than Scripture, particularly an excessive dependence on individuals to pronounce on believers’ destinies.

He delivered one of his strongest warnings: “If we mess it up, the kind of Christianity we are practising in Africa today, if it gets exported to the rest of the world, it will be the death of Christianity.”

According to him, Christianity cannot be built around whatever individuals claim God has newly revealed to them. The Church must instead remain connected to the biblical and historical foundations of the Christian faith.

He challenged Assemblies of God, as an established Pentecostal denomination, to make its doctrinal voice heard and help preserve sound Christian teaching for future generations.
